Gedicht
Jike Bu
Call her Suoma
Call her Suomain the name of love we share
in the last, this and next life.
Love her—love her breathtaking color
from blooming,
the traces she left
in the wind the rain the scorching sun.
Nothing distains her beauty: she is pure
like ice jade
but she is not just pretty and frail.
Her sonorous voice comes from the air,
the revolving stream, the soil.
Love her.
And embrace her barren body
like heaven and earth
and everything that grows on earth
with natural birth and death
in the world even though the world
doesn’t care where the wind blows,
where you’re from what you are or where you’re going.
She has her own garden, her old dream
and her clearly sounding name—
Call her Suoma out loud
like calling yourself.

"Suoma" in the poem title means azalea flower in the Yi language. It’s also the most common name for women in the ethnic Yi region in southwestern China.
