Sprache in Essenz: Contemporary poetry of the Netherlands and Flanders
For five evenings, between 26 April and 24 May, five Dutch, five Flemish, and four German poets will perform at the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin. Appearances include Mark Boog, Peter Verhelst, Stefan Hertmans, Dirk van Bastelaere, Tonnus Oosterhoff, and Anneke Brassinga. Along with the public readings there will be seminars and lectures at the Free University of Berlin.

Pulitzer Poetry
The prize for poetry went to Claudia Emerson for Late Wife: poems based on a series of letters to her ex-husband. Emerson, a professor of English at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., said she was thrilled and surprised about the award.

VSB Prize to Boog
In the Netherlands, the most important annual prize for a poetry collection in Dutch has been awarded to Mark Boog for De encyclopedie van de grote woorden (Encyclopedia of Big Words). Esther Jansma won the A. Roland Holst Penning prize in respect of her entire oeuvre.

Hughes liked it, Larkin didn’t. In the Times, Andrew Motion recalls how he won the Arvon Prize and invites entries to this year’s contest – the deadline is September 15th.

Adcock celebrated
New Zealand-born poet Fleur Adcock has won the 2006 Queen's gold medal for poetry. Born in 1934, Adcock spend much of her childhood, including the war years, in England. She is only the seventh female poet to win the prize in 73 years.
