The House of Poetry in Morocco celebrates the Poetry World Day

the poetry world day was celebrated in Morocco this year (March 21st, 2003) under the sign "No to the War" Thus, the great evening ceremony that commemorates the event, took place on March 21 in Casablanca (the cultural complex of Touria Sekkat). The evening was marked in particular by the handing-over of the price of the first volume of poetry and by the reading of the message of the general director of the UNESCO , as well as the reading of the poetry world day speech by the poet Mohamed Mimouni.
The activities registered in the framework of this celebration, were organized in collaboration with the ministries of Culture, national Education and Youth as well as the Cervantes Institute.
The House of poetry in Morocco organized a ceremony of homage to the Spanish poetess Trina Mercader, who between 1947 and 1956 published the review "Al Mouâtamid" in both the Arab and Spanish languages, first in in Larache, and then then in Tétouan, and that in collaboration with a pleiad of poets and Moroccan writers, of whom is the writer Mohamed Sabbagh. This ceremony of homage took place in the Cervantes Institutes of Casablanca (March 18), of Rabat (March 19) and of Tangier (March 21). An exposition of some issues of this review, round tables and recitals of poetry were also designed to acquaint Moroccan people with this poetess.
Moreover, meetings with Moroccan poets were organized in Moroccan schools and establishments on the occasion of the poetry world day as well as contests of poetry to the profit of pupils and students.
